Cloud Servers Frequently Asked Questions
How many virtual machines can I build?
The number of virtual machines that can be built is limited purely by the amount of compute resources purchased. By purchasing a pool of RAM, CPU and Storage, you can build out one or more virtual machines. For example if you buy 10 CPU Cores, 10GB of RAM, and 100GB of Storage, you could create one single machine using all of the resources available or 10 machines, each with 1 Core, 1GB of RAM and 10GB of storage. It really is that easy! Resources can be moved between machines at any time.
What is the maximum specification per virtual machine/instance?
A single Virtual Machine can be allocated 32 CPU Cores, 240GB of RAM and 64TB of Tier 1 & Tier 2 Storage (SSD Accelerated SAS/SATA). A further 80TB of NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, AFP, FTP/SFTP Tier 3 storage can be attached to a single virtual instance if required for backup/archival storage purposes.
What payment methods and contract terms do you offer?
Cloud Compute solutions are paid for monthly in advance. Customers have the right to cancel the service at any time provided a minimum of 24 hours notice is provided prior to automatic renewal taking place. Payments are taken automatically by Visa Credit/Debit, Mastercard, Maestro, Switch or PayPal. At this time we do not accept payment by Telegraphic Transfer, BACS or Cheque.
What types of applications can be run in a public cloud environment?

Do you provide OnApp backups, or any other backup services?
As standard, we provide free daily, weekly and monthly virtual machine snapshots and 20GB of free OnApp backup and template storage with each new order. Additional Tier 3 backup space can be purchased from as little as £0.05/GB per month up to a maximum of 80TB of storage. In the event that a server restore is needed, a server image from the previous day, week or month can be instantly restored through the customer control panel.
What virtualisation software do you use?
Our Private Cloud platform, located in the BT Datacenter in Belfast is powered by Microsoft Hyper-V, whilst our London Public Cloud platforms are powered by Xen. Xen Project software is an open source virtualization platform with a similar governance structure to the Linux kernel. Designed from the start for cloud computing, the Project has more than a decade of development and is being used by more than 10 million users. A Collaborative Project at The Linux Foundation, the Xen Project community is focused on advancing virtualization in a number of different commercial and open source applications including server virtualization, Infrastructure as a Services (IaaS), desktop virtualization, security applications, embedded and hardware appliances.

We understand that our customers require the ultimate control over their virtual instances, load balancers, bare metal servers and virtual dedicated appliances, so we include direct OnAPP access as standard to all customers. A single pane of glass option is also available through the customer control panel.
What firewall options are available?
As standard every single virtual machine includes a comprehensive platform firewall that allows a custom ruleset to be created for each individual network interface on each virtual machines. Firewalls support default ACCEPT and DROP rules with support for TCP, UDP and ICMP rules. Additional software based firewalls can be installed and configured at operating system level as required.
Can you provide me with a downloadable copy of my machines?
If you’re moving to a new provider and wish to download a copy of your virtual machine images, when submitting your cancellation request through the customer portal, please add comments to the notes section to request this. Please ensure that at least 7 days notice is given prior to the account expiring to allow our team to make these files available to you, and give you sufficient time to download the files prior to the account expiring or terminating.
